Readying for the Next Battle (Signed Print)

To me this piece seems to depict a person in contemplation, steeling themself, readying themself for another battle in a long war they've been fighting. What ethnicity or gender might they be? That's for you to decide; I tried to make them somewhat ambiguous in terms of identity. So who are they? What exactly are they doing? Again, that's up to you.
